Woody Weed Control North Queensland | Wild Country Land Care and Earth

A THREE-PHASE PLAN FOR WOODY WEED CONTROL

Clearing visible growth is only part of managing a woody weed infestation. Remaining root systems can reshoot, while seed already in the soil can produce new plants.

Our three-phase approach tackles each stage, helping you regain usable land and maintain the progress made.

MECHANICAL CLEARING AND MULCHING

We use our Kubota skid steer loader with an FAE heavy-duty forestry mulcher to break down suitable woody vegetation in place, leaving a fine layer of mulch on the ground.

This method is designed to minimise ground disturbance and provide a clean finish, making treated areas more accessible and usable without leaving burn piles or heaps of cut vegetation to remove.

For larger areas of grassy vegetation, our slasher attachment cuts back growth efficiently. Slashing can help manage standing grassy fuel loads and create space for desirable grasses to regrow.

We assess the vegetation, terrain and access before starting, including any desirable vegetation or sensitive areas that need to be retained.

TARGETED HERBICIDE TREATMENT

Follow-up treatment is a critical part of controlling woody weeds. Mechanical clearing reduces above-ground growth, but it may leave living roots capable of producing new shoots. Without appropriate treatment, that regrowth can develop into another established infestation.

We target unwanted regrowth and remaining weeds using methods suited to the species and site:

Foliar spraying: Applying herbicide to suitable foliage.
Basal bark treatment: Applying treatment to the lower bark of suitable woody plants.
Cut stump treatment: Treating the freshly cut stump to target the remaining plant.
Drill and inject: Applying herbicide into drilled holes in the stem or trunk.

Our Polaris 4x4 UTV carries a 400-litre high-performance spray unit, helping us reach suitable areas that are difficult to access and cover larger sites efficiently. Hand-operated equipment supports more selective work where needed.

Treatment timing takes the season, plant growth and site conditions into account. Each application is selected for the target species and carried out according to relevant product requirements.

ONGOING MONITORING AND MANAGEMENT

Lasting weed control needs follow-up. Plants missed during earlier work, surviving regrowth and seedlings emerging from the existing soil seed bank can all require further attention.

We monitor treated areas and apply suitable follow-up treatments as unwanted growth emerges. This helps prevent new plants from becoming established and gives desirable vegetation the opportunity to recover.

The frequency and type of maintenance depend on the weeds present, site conditions and how you want to use the land.

PLANNED AROUND YOUR PEOPLE

Whether you’re managing a rural property, reopening an overgrown paddock or restoring an affected area, we start by understanding the site and your priorities.

We’ll discuss previous treatments, access, vegetation to retain and seasonal timing, then outline the initial work and follow-up plan.
